Vengaya Thugayal (onion chutney)
Very tasty, sweet and spicy chutney for bread and rice.
Ingredients
- 3 medium sized onions, chopped finely
- 2 tsp urad dal (small black beans)
- 2 tsp channa dal (split chickpeas)
- 4 dry red chili peppers
- 1/2 tsp tamarind paste
- 2 tbsp oil
- salt to taste
Preparation
- fry the dals and the red pepper in 1/2 tsp oil until it gets roasted and keep
aside
- simmer the onion in the rest of the oil until it is transparent and very
light brown
- grind the roasted dals, onions, tamarind paste and salt into a paste
