Sukhi Channa Dal
Delicate but very tasty dal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup channa dal
- 3-4 cups water
- salt to taste
- 2 * 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 2 tbsp ghee
- small stick of cinnamon
- 3 pods green cardamom
- 2 cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp fenugreek leaves
Preparation
- Wash the dal and let it soak for 15 minutes. Drain and cook until soft (but
not mushy) in the 5 cups of water, with added salt and 1/2 tsp turmeric.
- Heat the ghee on a low flame. Add the whole masala (cinnamon, cardamom,
cloves, bay leaf, cumin seeds) and leave to splutter for a couple of minutes.
- Add the onions, fry until light brown.
- Add cooked dal, 1/2 tsp of turmeric, chili, lemon juice, sugar, fenugreek
leaves, and optionally some more salt, leave for a couple of minutes and
serve.
