Onion bhajias
Delicious fried onion cookies, great as side dish or apetizer. Serve with mango
or tamarind chutney.
Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp onion seeds
- 1/2 tsp nigella
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 200 gms gram (chick peas) flour
- 100 gms rice flour
- 1 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida
- 2 green chilies, chopped finely
- 1/2 cup chopped cilantro leaves, chopped
- 2-3 onions, sliced in even, not too thin slices
- oil for deep frying
Preparation
- heat the onion, nigella and cumin for a minute in a non-stick pan, cool a bit
and grind coarsely
- sieve the gram flour and rice flour in a big bowl
- add all the spices and salt, add some water to make a paste
- stir in more water until you get a thick batter
- add cilantro and chilies and stir
- heat the oil, dip the onion slices in the batter and fry until brown and
crispy
