Hussaini Tamatar Qoot (tomato chutney)
Very nice, spicy sauce for breads and bhajias.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3/4 tsp black mustard seeds
- 1 stalk curry leaves
- pinch of asafoetida
- 1 flake garlic, crushed or grated
- 1 cm ginger, grated
- 4 green chili peppers, split and with seeds removed
- 4 medium sized tomatoes, skinned and chopped
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 2 tsp sugar
- salt to taste
Preparation
- heat the oil on a low flame, add mustard seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida
and fry for a minute
- add garlic, ginger and chili peppers, fry a bit until the garlic and ginger
become light brown
- add tomatoes, turmeric and chili powder, fry for 10 minutes until the
tomatoes get pulpy, stirring occasionally
- add sugar and stir until it's dissolved, add salt, serve hot
