Channa Moong Dal
Simple and easy to prepare, but very nice side dish.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup green moong dal (dry mung beans)
- 1 tbsp yellow channa dal (dry split chickpeas)
- 2-2 1/2 cups water
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 2-3 cm ginger, grated
- salt to taste
- 1/2 lemon
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped
Preparation
- cook the dals in 1 1/2 cup of the water with a pinch of turmeric until it's
soft
- when done, put aside
- mix the garam masala, chili powder, turmeric and coriander powder with
1/2 cup of water
- heat the ghee on a low flame, add the cumin and mustard, allow to splutter
- add the ginger and fry until light brown
- pour in the ground masalas in water and fry for another minute
- add the dal and remaining water and stir well, bring to a boil
- add the salt and lemon juice and stir, serve garnished with chopped coriander
